VQB5 - Virginia's Quality Measurement and Improvement System

The Virginia Quality Birth to Five System (VQB5) evaluates teacher-child interactions using the nationally recognized Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) to ensure high-quality early learning experiences.

Each year, over 30,000 CLASS observations are conducted across more than 10,000 infant, toddler, and preschool classrooms, including family day homes. These observations provide educators with valuable, ongoing feedback to support continuous improvement and enhance the learning environment.

As a Community-Based Preschool teacher for ACPS (Alexandria City Public Schools), Kimberly worked with preschoolers in public  and private settings, and during home visits. What she enjoyed most as a teacher was having the opportunity to work not only with preschoolers but also with their classroom teachers and parents, also known as caregivers.

We Love Kids

“I believe that when we as teachers can make an impact on the lives of preschoolers and the adults they come in contact with on a daily basis, then we are successful. Sure, I would get excited when a child was progressing towards a goal, but I would be ecstatic when a child’s teacher or parent would inform me of their progress. That told me that what I was imparting to a child had become a goal for the team of individuals who also worked with that child.”

Our Goal

Quality Daycare in Alexandria

I don’t know how many people realize the importance of early childhood education, but one thing I know is that the early years of a child’s life are precious. What I will expose them to will have an effect on their future educational experiences.

But I also believe that it continues to be a team effort. Parents are the first teacher, therefore, it is important to have an ongoing collaboration with parents. When teachers and families work together, children feel more supported, confident, and eager to learn.

A strong partnership helps build a foundation for success, both in school and beyond.

Infant, Toddler and Preschool Programs:

Infant Daycare

The first way that infants take in their surroundings is through sight and sound. They are navigating through their environment and rely heavily on familiar faces and voices.

During this stage, our staff also makes safety a top priority as toddlers begin to crawl, pull up, stand, and walk. Our staff is vigilant and physically present while toddlers explore.

The Toddler Twos program is all about socialization and negotiation. At this stage of development, children are mostly expressing themselves nonverbally.

Between the ages of 3-5 years old, there is a dramatic increase in a child’s development. The child you have watched grow thus far is now blossoming into a child full of wonder.
